Nine File for Mercedes ISD School Board Nov. 3 Election
Nine candidates have filed to run for four seats on the Mercedes Independent School District Board of Trustees in the Nov. 3 election, setting up contested races in each of the four positions.
According to the Mercedes ISD 2026 School Board Candidates filing list, candidates have filed for Places 1 through 4.
The candidates listed for the election are:
Place 1: Joseph Bay Trevino and Adan Vallejo
Place 2: Marcos J. Garcia IV (incumbent), Horacio J. Pequeno and Velda Garcia
Place 3: Cristella Hernandez and Patti Ross Loya
Place 4: Nancy E. Vallejo (incumbent), and Johnny Isaac Gomez
Marcos Garcia and Nancy Vallejo are the two incumbents seeking to retain their positions on the Mercedes ISD Board of Trustees.
Place 4 has attracted the largest field, with three candidates competing for the seat. The other three positions have two candidates each.
The election will give Mercedes voters the opportunity to select trustees who will help provide oversight and leadership for the district, including decisions involving educational programs, district policies and the future direction of Mercedes ISD.
