On Saturday, September 26, Texas Wrestling Entertainment will be hosting their “Independencia” wrestling event at the Mercedes KC Hall Event Center, where tickets will be $10 for first-come, first-served general admission, but free for all military and first responders. Doors open at 6:30 p.m., and the bell will ring at 7:30 p.m.., signaling the start of six matches with several renowned wrestlers such as Kike Caballero and Sylvia Sanchez.

Rudy Gonzalez, Founder of Texas Wrestling Entertainment, says that this event is primarily focused on having some good family friendly fun, 

“We try to provide what WWE doesn’t provide, which is family entertainment…we want families to come out.” Gonzalez said.

Known as Rudy Boy Gonzalez during his wrestling days, he got his start traveling with a group called Southwest Championship Wrestling, where he would eventually make connections and work his way up to owning a wrestling group for himself. 

Although he does not live in the valley, he has been to several cities, and throughout his years of managing and wrestling, he has seen many faces and thinks they deserve more spotlight, which is what he aims to do with his group.

“When I first started going down there to do events, there was just us. But now there’s several promotions down there, local guys down there, there’s a lot of good kids down there.” Gonzalez said.

He says that there are many things that can be done to help the local crowd get more reach, giving a few examples of what other local groups can do to reach even greater heights.

“We try and run like the big leagues, but we’re also small, and the audience understands that. To be looked at as a legitimate wrestling promotion, you have to do things that the legitimate promotions do to draw the crowd in, otherwise you’re just another local group.” he said.

The family friendly event will be taking place at the KC Event hall in Mercedes, and time will be set aside for fans to chat with and get autographs from their favorite fighters.
