The MHS Multi-Year Reunion Committee is now in the final planning stages for their three day reunion event. The reunion dates are on November 6, 7, and 8, where old classmates will be able to see each other again and have some fun.

The initial planning phase started around a year ago, when the committee was first formed. At the start, it was only planned to be a reunion dedicated to the class of 1976 and 1977, but eventually it was decided that they should do the reunion for all of the graduating classes of the 70’s. 

Christina Luna, Treasurer of the Committee, said that they wanted to do this because some of these classes haven’t had a reunion in years, and wanted to give everyone an opportunity to get together.

“Some of these classes haven’t had a reunion in years; we had ours last year, and it was just so rewarding because we met up with some classmates we hadn’t seen in literally 50 years since we had graduated.” she said. “So this is an opportunity for everybody to see people from their class…”

Each night of the reunion will be a different event to celebrate, with the biggest event, a dinner and dance at the Mercedes Civic Center, starting at 7 p.m. and ending at 12 a.m. In order to attend, a due of $50 must be paid to any of the representatives who are part of the committee. 

Contact any of the names below in order to secure a spot at the Civic Center. The deadline to pay the $50 due is October 24, where a final count will be taken and used as the final number for all attendees at the Civic Center.

There is a registration form, but it is optional, and all that attendees must do is contact one of the members above, give their name and their due, and they are set to attend the dinner and dance.

A portion of the cost to utilize the Civic Center has been paid through a generous donation by the Class of 1976, but to help raise funds for the remaining balance, the committee will host a chalupa night at the American Legion Post 172 building in Mercedes. The chalupa night will last for 20 games, and tickets to play cost $10, giving attendees two cards to play with. 

Various prizes can be won at the chalupa night, and any leftover funds will help go towards door prizes at the civic center dinner and dance.

Christina Luna says that the more is always the merrier, and hopes that as many people as possible will be able to make it to the festivities.

“I think that the older you are, the more we appreciate getting to see somebody again.” Luna said. “It’s just a good opportunity for so many people to get together again.”

In addition to the events listed above, there will be two more informational meetings on September 15th and 29th. These meetings go over information on the current state of the reunion events, and are held at the Mercedes Chilis’s, where all students from the classes of the 70’s are welcome to attend.
