Mercedes ISD UIL Academics students were recognized by the City of Mercedes during a proclamation ceremony declaring June 2, 2026, as Mercedes ISD UIL Academics Students Recognition Day. Among those honored were Zachary Sanchez and Adrian Gonzalez for their outstanding achievements at the regional and state levels.

Sanchez earned fifth place in Copy Editing at the UIL State Academic Meet held May 18-19 at The University of Texas at Austin. Journalism teachers and students were also recognized for their accomplishments in UIL Journalism events, bringing distinction and recognition to Mercedes ISD and the community.
