SUGAR LAND, Texas – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros women’s golf team wrapped up play at the Riverbend Intercollegiate Invitational on Tuesday with several strong performances in the final round, highlighted by steady play from junior Preston Saiz and sophomore Zoe Hobbs.

The Vaqueros remained in eighth overall, and finished second among Southland Conference teams. UTRGV trailed Houston Christian (second) and led East Texas A&M (10^th), Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (12^th), Lamar (13^th), and Incarnate Word (16^th).

Saiz led the Vaqueros in the third round, carding a 1-over-par 73 to finish tied for 10th place overall with a 54-hole total of 220. Saiz remained composed throughout the final round, securing UTRGV’s top individual finish of the event.

Hobbs also delivered a solid performance on the final day, shooting a 73 in round three to finish tied for 10th place with a total score of 222. Hobbs consistent play in the closing round helped the Vaqueros maintain momentum down the stretch.

Sophomore Miriam Barcalova recorded an 81 in the third round to finish tied for 51st place with a total of 234, while senior Cristina Galban shot an 80 in the final round to place tied for 55th at 235.

Junior Natalia Rodriguez rounded out the Vaqueros lineup with an 85 in the third round, finishing tied for 71st place with a three-round total of 241.

Louisville led all teams with a three-round score of 873. Tarleton’s Louise Depadt led all individuals with a three-round score of 211.

The Vaqueros will look ahead to their next competition, Lipscomb’s The Nashville Intercollegiate, which will be played at Hermitage Golf Course in Old Hickory, Tenn. from March 23-25.
