Mercedes fire chief fired

On Friday, Jan. 19,  Mercedes Fire Chief and Emergency Management Coordinator Tommy Ureste  of the City of Mercedes was terminated of his fire station duties.

Ureste was terminated due to a zero tolerance policy violation, according to Mercedes City Manager Sergio Zavala, 

City leaders have yet to annouce what policy Ureste violated.

The Mercedes Fire Department was established in May 1909. The department has a response district of approximately 74.8 square miles and operates on Monday through Friday from 8 am to 5 p.m. to a 24 hour shifts.
