Mercedes Transition Academy Wins Tree Decorating Contest

Students from the Mercedes Transition Academy (MTA) 18+ program earned first place at the Enchanted Forest Tree Decorating Competition hosted by Region One Education Service Center in Edinburg.

The award-winning entry featured hand-made ornaments thoughtfully designed and created by MTA students, highlighting their creativity, teamwork, and attention to detail. The tree stood out among entries from across the region, earning top honors in the competition.

To recognize the achievement, MTA students were presented with a trophy recently during a recognition ceremony at the Mercedes High School Library. The event celebrated the students’ outstanding work and their dedication to the project.

School officials praised the students for representing Mercedes with pride and demonstrating the talents and skills developed through the Transition Academy program.

Superintendent Noyola compared the victory and celebration  to the high school football team.

“You competed, just like the football team. You competed against other schools, and you won. This tree is no different to winning the district championship. Just like the football team you worked hard, you put in the time to get this done. I want to thank you for representing us, thank you for making us proud.”
